Tommies Drop 3-1 Decision to Mounties in Final Regular Season Game

The St. Thomas University Tommies fell to the Mount Allison Mounties 3-1 in ACAA women's volleyball action Sunday afternoon at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

The set scores were 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, and 20-25.

The two teams battled for the lead throughout the first set, but the Mounties pulled away at the end to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.

The Tommies came out strong in the second set, jumping to a 7-1 lead. The Mounties fought back and eventually overcame the deficit, taking a two-point lead. With both teams exchanging points along the way the set remained close, but the Mounties were able to edge the Tommies 25-23.

The third set started out promising for the Tommies, but they ran into defensive troubles late. Fortunately for the home team, the defensive errors were covered up with stellar offensive that allowed them to close out the set.

The fourth set began well for the Tommies as their momentum carried them to an 18-13 lead. The Mounties regained their composure down the stretch and were able to close the gap, giving them a 3-1 win.

The Tommies struggled offensively throughout the match. They had only one set with a conversion rate over .200, while the Mounties were able to post that on two separate occasions.

The Tommies were led by Megan Mills and Jessica Barna, who had 13 and 12 kills respectively.

Rachel McDougall paced the Mounties with her 15 kills.
