St. Thomas University Tommies women's volleyball has gained a triple threat with the addition of Leo Hayes High School product Caitlin Jones.

Jones, also a member of the Spartans Volleyball Club, has experience playing as a hitter, setter, and libero—something Tommies head coach Don McKay plans to capitalize on.

"She will be another great asset to our roster. In practices alone she can fill in for so many players," he said. "She has a great attitude and a competitive edge, so we're looking forward to having her join the program this fall."

In the past two seasons with the Spartans, Jones has transitioned from hitter to setter and from setter to libero. In 2016, her performance as setter helped the 17U Spartans club finish fifth at the 18U provincial championship. After switching to libero for the 2017 season, Jones was recognized for her dedication with the team's Unsung Hero award.

"Caitlin has been instrumental in the success we've had this year," Spartans head coach Natasha Dube said. "I'm glad to hear she'll be continuing her volleyball career with the STU Tommies."

The soon to be high school graduate has also shown versatility at the high school level. This season she will mostly be playing at setter, and Leo Hayes Lions coach Megan Mills—a current Tommie—said her dynamic ability on the court has been key to their success.

"Caitlin is a very dynamic player who works hard and doesn't allow a ball to touch the floor without going after it," she said. "She's coachable and always looking to improve, and I'm excited she will be joining us at STU."

McKay will have the opportunity to watch Jones in action this weekend at the NBIAA Provincial Championship in Bathurst, NB.

Jones is the fourth new addition to the Tommies 2018-2019 roster. The Leo Hayes High School student will join a trio of Miramichi recruits—Jolie Allain, Marissa Hallihan, and Emily Dickson—in this year's incoming class.
