Lanteigne Named ACAA Rookie of the Year

Prior to Tuesday’s Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball quarterfinal games, the league announced their 2021-22 season all-stars and award winners, with a pair of Tommies being honoured.

Tommies’ middle Maddie MacGregor and left-side Abby Lanteigne were named ACAA 2nd Team All-Stars for their work this season, with Lanteigne also being named the ACAA Rookie of the Year.

MacGregor led the ACAA in attack percentage on the season, coming in at .285, while leading the Tommies in kills and tied for the team lead in total blocks.

“Maddie was unsure what position would be best for her at the start of the year; playing middle was the correct choice,” Tommies’ head coach, Don McKay, had to say about his second-year middle. “She hits well to both corners and has a deadly tip around blocks.”

Lanteigne, in her first year with the Tommies following successful stints with the Leo Hayes Lions and Reds Volleyball Club, finished the season right behind MacGregor in the ACAA attack percentage, finishing with .243. She also led the Tommies in digs with 133, good for 5th in the ACAA.

“Abby is one player that I have not had to do anything with when she got here,” said McKay. “She has had great coaching prior to getting to STU, from parents, club and school coaches. She reads the play so well, is in a good position to pass a lot and has great speed and height in her attacks. She is the total package. She really could start anywhere. She’s a smart player who we look forward to dominating in this league.”

The Tommies will face the Dal AC Rams tonight at 6:00pm at the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.
