Following their run to Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association silver medals, the St. Thomas University Tommies women’s volleyball program are pleased to announce their second member of the 2022-23 recruiting class, Kathleen Boyle.

Boyle has most recently played for both the Leo Hayes High School Lions and Spartans U18 Volleyball Club where she was team captain and helped the team to a third-place finish at provincials. Spartans head coach, Natasha Dube, thinks the Tommies are getting one of Atlantic Canada’s top graduating talents.

“I have been privileged to have her on my 18U Spartans team the past three years. While the pandemic has caused havoc in some of our plans, Kathleen has managed to improve every season and shine when called upon.”

The Tommies added nine players to the 2021-22 roster and are only graduating two players, so the team will be relatively young heading into the 2022-23 season. Having been the Spartans’ MVP twice, and with her being a team captain last season, Tommies’ coach, Don McKay is excited to have her join his young team, and to see how see progresses as a player in her time with the Tommies.

“She is an impact player. We have a young, athletic squad who are able to compete each night. Kathleen makes this group stronger. She moves well defensively, and with her height she’s always a blocking and scoring threat. I believe her game will continue to grow in our league.”

It wasn’t just the success the Tommies showed on the court this season that drew Boyle’s attention. It the team cohesion and the programs the university offers that made it her choice.

“I feel it is a great fit for me. Not only because of the atmosphere of the women’s volleyball team, but also the positive environment the coaches give to their players. I want to pursue a career in psychology and the program at St. Thomas is one of the best.”
