Thompson Takes on New Adventure with Tommies

The St. Thomas Women's Volleyball program have made their second recruitment of the year, adding libero Brooke Thompson of Fredericton, NB.

Thompson, a defensive specialist, is a product of the Leo Hayes High School Lions, as well as the Fredericton Reds volleyball club. Tommies' head coach Don McKay said Thompson will fit in with the Tommies immediatley.

“I am excited to welcome a defensive specialist into the fold. Thompson has played for solid coaches and I have watched her perform well on several occasions," McKay said. "She is very quick and makes a lot of good passes and decisions. She is an excellent academic student as well and should fit in immediately to our program. Her plans include becoming a teacher and that fits in well with our university.”

Thompson has had plenty of experience in high meaning games in a variety of sports. She played for the 2022 Canada Games Lacrosse team, Lacrosse New Brunswick in 2021-2022 and Soccer New Brunswick in 2018, as well as Leo Hayes Soccer in 2019 & 2022. In her volleyball career, she won Provincials in 2022 before placing ninth in Nationals in Edmonton. Her team placed second in the 2023 Provincials.

Thompson said she's excited to continue her volleyball dreams in her hometown - a city which she considers herself lucky to be in.

"Fredericton is a beautiful city which I am lucky enough to call my hometown. STU has a beautiful small campus and their moto - teach me goodness and knowledge and discipline, really resonates with me," Thompson said. "I’m thrilled to be playing with a great group of girls and excellent coaching staff. I feel my hard work and dedication will pay off and I look forward to bringing my defensive skills to the STU volleyball court."
