Abby Lanteigne Named ACAA Player of the Year

The 2022-23 ACAA Player of the Year has been named - being award to Tommies second year left side Abby Lanteigne (Fredericton, NB). Lanteigne was also named to the ACAA All-Conference team and a CCAA All-Canadian.

Tommies' head coach Don McKay said Lanteigne's award was well deserved. 

"Abby solidifies our back court and is constantly communicating with our libero and other passers on the serve receive, as well as with the right side and / or middle players in transition phase," McKay said. "In addition, she changes speeds and locations on her attacks - the biggest area of improvement has been in her serving - a player that is enjoyable to watch as she seems to hang in the air long after others have jumped and gone back down to the court. She is an integral part of our success."

Lanteigne quietly put up some of the best numbers in the ACAA while en route to leading the Tommies to a tie for the best record at 14-4. In 18 games, she put up 2.46 kills per set, ranking eighth in the leauge. Her 0.246 hitting percentage placed her fourth while her 3.02 digs per set had her third.Finally, her 3 points per set also had her in the top-10.

Lanteigne's progression has noticably come along way after winning the 2021-22 ACAA Rookie of the Year while also making the ACAA All-Conference Second Team. Her stats improved in nearly every category, including 48 more points this season.

STU Athletic Director Michael Eagles said he was thrilled to see a Tommie win the award.

"I am thrilled to see Abby win ACAA Player of the Year and be an All-Canadian. She has made a huge impact on our program right from the start of her career here at STU in 2021 and has continued to improve through her hard work and dedication. It is wonderful to see her rewarded for her efforts."
