The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers in 5 games to win the prestigious Stanley Cup on home ice and there was a touch of Green & Gold behind the scenes that helped the team's success.

Tommies Hockey alumnus Vojtech Kucera was on hand in Las Vegas to hoist the coveted trophy as the member of the Knights' scouting staff where he's been the Director of European scouting since 2016.  This was the Knights second appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to the Washington Capitals in 2018.

Kucera, a native of Czechia (formerly known as Czech Republic), attended St. Thomas University and completed his Bachelor's degree while playing for the Tommies Men's Hockey team.  He was named the team's defenceman of the year twice (1990-91, 1992-93), and also the program's MVP - the Dan Connolly Trophy - in 1992-93.

At the AUS Level (AUAA at the time), he earned the Godfrey Award for academic success, community involvement and athletic performance in 1992-93, and was a MacAdam Division All-Star in that same season.

St. Thomas Athletics, through his athletic pursuits, academic success and community spirit also honoured with the the John Frederick Walls award twice (91-92 and 92-93), the Male Athlete of the Year award in 1992-93, and recipient of the Sports Governing Medallion, which showcased a commitment to sports and campus life at St. Thomas.

After graduating from St. Thomas, Kucera pursued a Master's in Social Sciences at the University of Toronto.  

Vojtech has been involved in scouting for the NHL in Europe since the 1999-2000 season for the Washington Capitals and furthering his relationship with George McPhee by joining the Golden Knights as their Director of European Scouting since 2016-17.  Vegas has 5 Europeans on their roster this season with many more in the pipelines under contract.
