Michael Eagles was born and raised in Sussex, NB. He was drafted 116th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. Mike played 853 career NHL games, scoring 74 goals and 122 assists for 196 points. Throughout his playing career, he won a Memorial Cup with the Kitchener Rangers in 1982, won a bronze medal with the National Junior team in 1983, played for the AHL's Frederiction Express (1983-85), Quebec Nordiques (1985-1988), the Chicago Blackhawks (1988-1990), the Winnipeg Jets (1990-1995), and the Washington Capitals (1995-2000). During his time with the Capitals, he played in the 1998 Stanley Cup Finals against the Stanley Cup Champion, Detroit Red Wings.

In 2002, he was named head coach of St. Thomas University Men's Hockey. During his first year as head coach, he led the Tommies to a first place finish in the AUS and was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport (now U Sports Canada), Men's Hockey "Coach of the Year". In 2008, he also became the St. Thomas University Athletic Director. Mike eventually left his coaching position with men's hockey in 2011 to become more focused on his role as Director.

Mike has also represented Canada at the World Age Group Triathlon Championships in 2015 in Chicago.

He is currently the President of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA).

He has been inducted in the the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, Fredericton Sports Wall of Fame and the Sussex Sports Wall of Fame.

He married Anne-Marie (Allain) in 1986 and they have two sons, Matthew (Maria) and Christopher (Kathryn).

Anne-Marie passed away in 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial scholarship has been set up in her honour.
