Daemen Hemphill, a National Bronze medallist with Team New Brunswick joins the Green & Gold this Fall.

The 6'4" forward who played with John Caldwell in Grand Falls before finishing his high school career at Leo Hayes, will look to reconnect with Coach John Hickey at the helm to further his basketball career with the Tommies.  

Hemphill is excited about attending STU: "I was really interested in Economics and becoming a leader in business, and St. Thomas has been a pathway for many alumni in years past," mentions the NBIAA 'AAA' Boys Championship finalist. "I know what to expect to work under coach Hickey having played and coached alongside.  I was approached to help with team cohesion, increasing the level of competitiveness and bringing positivity through any challenging situations."  Hemphill was a member of the U15 Team New Brunswick that captured a bronze medal at Nationals - the first for the province in 15+ years - and the NB Canada Games team that competed at the 2017 event in  Winnipeg, MB.

Coach John Hickey knows what he's getting in a recruit of Hemphill's calibre. "Daemen is one of the best shooters in the region.  He will shoot from the perimeter and add range.  He'll also be athletic and versatile to bring a presence on the boards."  Hickey is holding a high standard of success and looks to Hemphill to lead by example on the court and in the classroom. "Daemen is a winner - he's played in some high pressure games and made big shots when asked.  His success through high school, Team NB and at the Canada Games makes him comfortable in tense moments."
