North Nova's McCarron commits to the Tommies Men's Basketball squad

Tommies Men's Basketball Coach John Hickey is adding another piece to his program with the commitment of North Nova guard Joe McCarron.

The product of New Glasgow, NS who stands at 6'0 will be pursuing a Mathematics major.  In choosing St. Thomas University, he is looking forward to: "its close knit school community; academic opportunities, especially the highly-respected Bachelor of Education program; and the opportunity to continue my basketball career."

"[I] felt it would be a great fit for me," the Pictou County Lightning grad wanted to join the Tommies because: "many individuals that I highly respect within the basketball community shared with me the culture and environment that the St Thomas Men’s Basketball program is built upon."

His pedigree as the MVP of the NNEC Gryphons, and a U18 Provincial champion in both AA and AAA bodes well for Coach Hickey: "If you ask anyone who’s ever seen him play, they’ll say that “he’s my type of player”. He works his tail off on the defensive end, shoots the ball well, and has a very good basketball IQ. I’m really looking forward to having Joe join our group and watching his game grow."

McCarron is the third recruit announced by Coach John Hickey, joining Daniel Hawkes (Woodstock, NB) and transfer Hunter Gray (Woodstock, NB).  Although Covid-19 has cancelled the first semester of competition, St. Thomas winter sport student-athletes will have the opportunity to train and develop their skills starting October 1st under Tommies coaching staff.
