Lavoie leads Tommies to win over Seawolves

Fredericton, NB – Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies overcame rthe University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves on Friday evening, to begin their season with a victory.

"Saint John is a good team. They have got a lot of good players so we're happy," STU coach, John Hickey, said after the match.

Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) picked up where he left off last season and finished the game with 21 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals. STU coach, John Hickey spoke about Lavoie's performance after the match.

"Geoff was good and for us we have so many guys who can score and it's about finding that matchup and making sure guys get the ball where they can be successful and we did that with him tonight."

The Tommies were boosted by efforts from Owen Amos (Miramichi, NB), who had 13 points, Vincent Lyttleton (Markham, ON) with 12 points, and new Tommies recruit, Noah McCarthy (Grand Falls, NB), getting 11 points. Hickey also commented on the depth of his team for this season.

"We're able to play a lot of guys at a very high level and keep the pace and defensive energy high and I think that is an advantage we have."

The Tommies next match is on Sunday when they visit the Holland College Hurricanes. The Seawolves are also in action on Sunday as they host the University of King's College Blue Devils.
