St. Thomas Tommies Secure 91-82 Win Over UKC

Fredericton, NB Tommies added another win at home against UKC Bluedevils. Tommies clinched the win with a final score of 91-82. Tommies concluded a strong semester before the break with a 7-1 record, securing the second spot in the league.

From the get-go, the Tommies established control, grabbing an early lead of 17-11 and taking the first quarter at 29-18. Tommies held onto their lead in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a scoreline of 55-47. 

Despite UKC's offensive push in the third quarter, the Tommies maintained an 8-point lead with 5 minutes left in the period.

Heading into the final quarter, the Tommies stretched their lead to 11 points, but UKC made it interesting, narrowing the gap to just 4 points with 4 minutes remaining. The match got intense in the final minutes, but the Tommies sealed the win with a final score of 91-82. 

"UKC gave us a good run today; some tough shots; it was hard to deal with them, but we finished the games strong with a positive note," Lavoie said after the game. 

Ifesinachi Chiekwe led UKC with 30 points, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds; for the Tommies, Geoffrey Lavoie led the team with 31 points, 5 assists, and 9 rebounds. 

"A lot of us need a little break, rest, get our bodies back to where they were, happy to add another win, but next semester is what really counts," Geoffrey Lavoie commented after the game. 

The next game for the Tommies will be after the break on January 12 against Crandall University; UKC will visit Mount Allison University on January 14.
