Tommies Fall in Hard Hitting Affair With Ironmen

Fredericton, NB- The St. Thomas University Tommies fell at the hands of the University of New Brunswick Ironmen, 65-5 at Scotiabank South Field.

The Tommies, 0-3 on the season, were paced by Zach Klassen (East Dalhousie, NS) who scored the lone try by the Tommies. Once again a pair of  second year players, Oliver Larson (Saint John, NB) and Jesse Reynolds (Belleisle, NB), were key contributors in the game.

"There are guys like Jesse that we rely on when the intensity isn't there to lead by example," said head coach Curtis Lauzon following the match. "Oliver today making some heavy tackles and just being all over the pitch for the attack was huge for us."

Klassen rumbled his way in for the Tommies try early in the first half, to cut the Ironmen lead to 15-5, but that was as close as the Tommies would get on the afternoon, as UNB closed out the day on a 50-0 run.

"We felt like we saw some really good things last week, but the intensity just wasn't there today, and we were a little disappointed with that," added Lauzon. "At the same time, we had some good moments and we were happy with that."

The Tommies will travel to PEI next weekend to face off against the UPEI Panthers, who handed STU a 55-14 defeat back on September 22nd.
