The St. Thomas University Tommies men’s soccer team has tapped into the Barbados and King’s Edgehill talent pool once again, as Adam and Zach Evelyn will be joining the Tommies in 2019-20.

The brothers, identical twins in fact, will join the Tommies following a trip to CCAA Nationals in 2018-19, and follow the path blazed by CCAA All-Canadian, Kyle Yearwood, who is also from Barbados, via King’s Edgehill.

Head coach John-Ryan is very excited to have the brothers don the Green and Gold in the upcoming season.

“I have been after ‘the twins’ for over a year now and the reality that they are finally joining to the Tommies is very exciting,” said Morrison, the reigning ACAA Men’s Coach of the Year. “They are both quality players that will challenge for starting spots from day one. They are both tough tackling, smart with the ball, have some creativity and meet my expectation for overall fitness from the team.”

Both players attribute their communication skills and pace when asked what they bring to the Tommies.

“I believe that I’ll bring a certain level of experience and knowledge to STU soccer, along with an aggressive and fast style of play that could potentially help the team,” said Adam.

“I will bring hard work, dedication and commitment to both my academics, and soccer, and do my best to help the team achieve its goals,” added Zach.

The brothers are familiar with winning, as their King’s Edgehill team won the 2017-18 Western Region Division 1 Boys Soccer Championship.

After meeting Morrison, the team and visiting campus, the decision to join St. Thomas was an easy one for the duo.

“I chose STU because of the very good academic reputation, along with the exceptional

soccer program, this made it clear to me that it was the right choice,” said Zach.

“I chose St. Thomas because after meeting coach Morrison and the boys on the team, it seemed like the place for me,” said Adam about his reasoning. “I believe that playing for a coach like JR will make me improve each session, and season, as a player and the atmosphere around the dressing room is very appealing.”

Morrison mirrors Adam’s sentiment about the locker room chemistry.

“They already have a great relationship with the squad, which is important for our little family unit. What might be their greatest attribute of all is their professionalism and respect for the coaching staff.”

The Evelyn brothers will join Chidubem Nkoloagu in the recruiting class of 2019-20.
