Tommies Men's Soccer seeks Cyr from Nation's Capital for Backfield

The STU Men’s Soccer program is happy to announce its 11th recruit of this offseason in highly touted defensive mid Gray Cyr from Ottawa South United, one of the top clubs in the country.

Gray chose St. Thomas because of how well it matched up with who he is as a person. "The small classes, and close net community they have in Fredericton was really eye catching."

Moving from one capital to a smaller version will be an easy adjustment for Cyr.  "My impression on the campus was amazing, the facilities they have to offer, and the amount of great things I have heard about Fredericton has been amazing."

The recent Mother Theresa High School graduate is looking forward to working under Tommies coach John-Ryan Morrison.  "The more you learn about Coach JR and what he has to offer, I feel that St. Thomas can build the player and student I have the potential to become along side Coach JR."

Coach Morrison is excited to bolster the backline.  "The day has finally come to be able to announce Gray as member of our Tommies Men’s team for the next 4 seasons.   We’ve been blessed with the best DM in the league the past 4 seasons but with Kyle Yearwood graduating, it left a huge gap in the middle of the park to fill. I think Gray could one day become that player and so I’ve worked really hard to bring him into our soccer family.”

The Tommies like many teams in the ACAA are in rebuilding mode after the pandemic, but that won't stop Gray.  "My goal is to help out and control the Center mid-field as the hardest working player on the pitch. I believe that the club environment I was previously in gave me a understanding of the next step at the Collegiate level.

Coach Morrison likes what he hears from his newest addition.  “Gray has good distribution, tough tackling, good grades and after spending time over the past couple of months getting to know him and his family, I knew I wanted him in the Green and Gold.“

Gray joins the recruiting class that incluces Logan Ormond, Josh Kuehl, Isiaiah Rowinski, Takin Marvasti, Matteo Neves, Will Benoit, Zachary Zoellner-Krauss, Ben Davidge, Nicholas Reis and Moman Adbul.
