Quebec Winger William Benoit finds his Way to Men's Soccer Tommies

Name: William Benoit
Soccer Club: Chambly Arsenal & Celtix du Haut Richelieu
Hometown: Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC
Position: Winger
Cegep: Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

The STU Men’s Soccer Team is happy to announce William Benoit as his 5th addition to the 2021 squad as Head Coach John-Ryan Morrison continues his rebuild and this time he had a little help.

The winger who will be transfering from Cegep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu was being sought by numerous programs in Quebec and the United States, but opted for St. Thomas in Fredericton.  A fierce competitor, William wants to bring success to Tommies Men's program. "I will do anything to help my team win as much silverware as possible," boasts Benoit. "My speed, my agility, my patience, my intensity, my creativity and my great work ethic will clearly be some great assets that I want to bring to the Tommies."

Coach Morrison is excited for the arrival of the Chambly Arsenal product to his squad on and off the pitch.  "Will has a very impressive soccer resume and I think his size, pace and skill will cause havoc out wide next season. I also like that with his experiences with Sport Etudes and time with the Géants, he has already developed the balance required to be a successful student athlete at this level."

“Typically when I first speak to a recruit, 99% of the time they have never heard of St Thomas but this time we had a bit of help since Will’s mom spent time at STU and remembered her time here fondly,” John-Ryan mentions. That might provide some insight to STU's campus life and boost his marks.  Aside from his soccer talents, "he has good grades, gives back to his community and I think he is going to fit into our team culture very well."

Will could turn into a player to watch for at Scotiabank Park South with scoring prowess.  "In the Fall of 2017, I went to Las Vegas with Arsenal de Chambly U17AA and our team won the tournament and I won the golden boot with 6 goals in 4 games."  His pedigree with Arsenal U17AA, along with the Celtix du Haut-Richelieu and most recently the Géants of Cegep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu will make a significant impact with the Green & Gold this upcoming Fall 2021.

Will joins Zachary Zoellner-Krauss, Ben Davidge, Nicholas Reis and Moman Adbul who have committed to the Men's Soccer program for the 2021-2022 season.
