Late Rally Seals Tommies' Victory

The St. Thomas University Tommies rallied late in the second half to come away with a 3-0 win at home against the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on Sunday.

STU coach, John-Ryan Morrison was delighted to come away with the win after a first half where the Tommies could not find a way to get the ball into the back of the net.

"MSVU brought a really strong team today and played a really good first half so I'm happy we got the three points."

The Tommies were without their main goal threat, Brett Springer, who was out through suspension. There were times during the first half where the Tommies lacked that cutting edge in front of goal and missed a presence like Springer.

The second half saw a different approach from the Tommies as they were more direct and purposeful with their play. On the 65th minute, Josh Oakes (Kitchener, ON) timed his jump well and connected to a Chidubem Nkoloagu (Burnaby, BC) cross to put the Tommies in front.

Nkoloagu was then shifted from left-wingback to striker and netted twice in the last three minutes to ensure the victory.

Morrison praised his team's depth for the second time in a week and is glad to have so many options to choose from.

"We put a different starting lineup out every game this year and we put people on today to get their opportunity and we're using everyone that we have to our advantage," Morrison said.

The next fixture for the Tommies will be at home to the Dalhousie Agriculture Campus Rams on October 1st while MSVU will head to Moncton to face the Crandall University Chargers on October 2nd.
