John-Ryan Morrison has made his first addition to the 2023-24 St. Thomas Tommies team. Bright Olaonis, a trasnfer from London, UK, joins the Tommies after a stint with Muskegon Community College.

Olaonis chose STU to fit his academic needs, where he hopes to study journalism. He said picking the Tommies was an easy choice after a conversation with Morrison.

"STU is a great school with a great academic reputation and it also has a great soccer program. When choosing my next school, I wanted to join a school that would allow me to chase my dream of becoming a sports journalist and STU specialising in Liberal arts was a great thing for me," Oaloanis said. "Choosing to be part of the Tommies was an easy choice after I had  spoken to Coach Morrison. Hearing the great things that the team has already done together and how they are still working hard to do even better solidified my choice of choosing STU."

Morrison desribes Olaonis as a high level athlete that can take defenders one-on-one with.

"I am very happy to announce Bright as our first recruit of the 2023 season," Morrison said. "Bright loves to take defenders on one v. one, brings a high level of experience and will provide us some much-needed depth in scoring.  It has taken a lot of work to get him here but I believe it will all pay off in the long run for our program."

Olaonis said his speed, dribbiling and scoring ability will make the Tommies an "even stronger" team, saying STU already has great upside. Ultimatley, hos goal is to help contribute to another ACAA championship.

"That's what I've always wanted to do. Winning is always my goal and being able to win with the Tommies as a team would be amazing," he said. "I want to help push this team to the highest of highs and I can't wait to be able to do that."
