Tommies Check Offseason Need with Oliver Altemeyer
Name: Oliver Altemeyer,
Position: Left Back
Hometown: Winnipeg, MB
Former clubs: Team Manitoba, Bonivital SC
The St. Thomas Tommies continue to add to their 2023-24 core. Head coach John-Ryan Morrison has pulled another prospect from the class of '23 with Oliver Altemeyer, a left back from Winnipeg, MB. Altemeyer, a participant in the Canada games with Team Manitoba, will complete one of Morrison's biggest goals of the offseason - finding a left-footed back.
"Finding a left-footed back was one of the priorities of the offseason and I think Oliver, with his experience playing at the Canada Games as part of Team Manitoba, will help us continue to push towards our goals," Morrison said.
Morrison said he Altemeyer's play style had multiple attributes to how he likes his backs to play.
"Oliver looks to play out of the back first and foremost, plus he likes to get stuck in on tackles which are both attributes I look for in my backs. I look forward to having him here and to try and help develop his game for the next level."
For Altemeyer, picking STU wasn't a difficult choice. A chance to compete in Nationals is his biggest priority outside of academics.
"I chose STU for the chance to compete at Nationals as well as being able to play and train in what I have heard is a very competitive environment," Altemeyer said.
Altemeyer brings a passion of winning and work ethic to the 2023-24 Tommies.
"I look forward to bringing my desire to win soccer matches, my hard work ethic, my tactical understanding, and my on and off field leadership."
