Transfer Alert
Rhys Cook McCormick is crossing the continent to join the Tommies Soccer squad to vie for an ACAA Banner and a ticket to Nationals.
The 6'4" defender is transfering from Feather River College of the CCCAA located in Northern California after spending two seasons with the Golden Eagles.
Choosing St. Thomas University was easy because, as Rhys said: "their small class sizes and their commitment to making a tight-knit community is important to my academic success."
The Waterloo Ontario native is familiar with current players on STU's roster and helped guide Cook McCormick to the ACAA.
"The guys have only told me great things about the program, the coaching staff and their goals for multiple Atlantic banners." he said.
Coach John-Ryan Morrison is adding another piece to the puzzle with post-secondary competition under his belt.
"I am very excited that Rhys has chosen St Thomas to pursue his academic and athletic career after two years playing in California for a successful Feather River College team," mentions Coach Morrison.
Returning to Canada after heading West, Cook McCormick will be able to use his experience to push the Green & Gold back to the top of the ACAA.
"He is a tough tackling CB, that is comfortable with the ball at his feet and at 6'4, is an obvious presence on set pieces at either end of the pitch," said John-Ryan. "We had an immediate need at Cornerback and so the timing for both of us was perfect."
Perfect indeed for a run for back-to-back-to-back regular season crowns and getting revenge after letting the ACAA banner slip through their fingers after the loss in last year's final in Fredericton in penalty kicks.
Rhys is hungry for that banner and will trust the process put in place by Coach Morrison.
"I'll be bringing to the Tommies a great desire to learn and growth both on and off the pitch," he added.
Rhys is the latest addition to the Men's Soccer team for the 2023-2024 season after the announcements of Shreyansh Choudhary, Mees van Nouhuys, Brady Chapman, Kiran Hollman Prichard, Laurent Lambert, Oliver Altemeyer, and Bright Olaonis.
The 2023 ACAA Soccer schedule will be announced in June, with Season Passes on sale in August and training camp opening in late August for the STU Soccer teams.
