Tommies win again by defeating Mystics 1-0

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies defeated the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Grant Harvey Turf Field.

The Tommies dominated the game from the first minute and were disappointed to have not scored more during the game.

"I thought we controlled the play for the whole 90. We should have scored a few more opportunities, but we really didn't let them get in the game at all," said John-Ryan Morrison, STU head coach.

The Tommies were wasteful in the first half and left it until the stroke of halftime to pull ahead. Captain Josh Oakes ran through on goal and sent the keeper the wrong way to put the hosts in front. Morrison also spoke about his captain's contributions after the game.

"We've moved him further up the field to help us in that department, and it's worked out well in the last couple games."

This victory follows the spectacular draw against Holland College last week, and Morrison is weary of his next opponents, host the University of King's College, who are top of the standing, with STU currently behind them. The Tommies coach said he and his players are preparing for this game.

"They're in front of us, and that's the team we're trying to chase, and if we beat them, then we'll be in first place, which is the goal for this programme."

The Tommies' next match will take place on Sunday as they host the University of King's College, while the next match for the Mystics will also be on Sunday when they head to Saint John to play the University of New Brunswick Saint John.
