Fredericton, NB - The STU Tommies claimed their first win of the season with a decisive 4-1 victory over the MSVU Mystics.
STU Tommies secured their first win of the season with a commanding 4-1 victory over the MSVU Mystics at Grant-Harvey Field. The game took a decisive turn on min 29' when MSVU was reduced to 10 men following a red card to Quinn Halsey, giving the Tommies the upper hand.
STU took full advantage of their numerical superiority, dominating possession and pressing for the opening goal. It came just before halftime min 40 when captain Josh Oakes unleashed a spectacular shot that struck the post before finding the back of the net, giving the Tommies a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw the Tommies continue their attacking momentum. In the 51st minute, they were awarded a penalty, which striker Brett Springer confidently converted to double the lead.
Later in the game, Chidubem Nkoloagu added a third goal with another stunning shot from distance, further extending STU's advantage.
MSVU managed to pull one back in the 90th minute, with Aidan Whelan scoring a consolation goal. However, the Tommies were not finished. In the dying moments, center-back Samuel Chioniere capped off the win with a powerful header from a corner, sealing a 4-1 triumph for the home team.
Chidubem Nkoloagu was named Player of the Game for his outstanding performance and brilliant goal. The Tommies will look to build on this victory as they head on the road to face Dalhousie Agricultural College September 14, while MSVU will aim to bounce back against UKC on September 11.
