Tommies Land MCAC All-Star

The St. Thomas University Tommies Men’s volleyball have made their first move of the 2023 offseason - bolstering their roster for their upcoming campaign with setter Tim Juvonen from Selkirk, MB.  Juvonen has spent three full seasons with the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers in Winnipeg, MB, showoing out as an elite setter. Juvonen was named team MVP in 2021-2022, capping off the '21-22 run with the Manitoba Collegiate Athletic Conference Finals MVP honours.

Tommies' head coach Henri Mallet is thrilled to land a transfer of Juvonen’s pedigree, saying he'll fir into the Tommies' culture right away. “Tim is a tall, athletic setter that we will be able to utilize in a variety of way," Mallet said. "His resume speaks for itself - and he will fit right into our culture here at STU. We are excited to pair him with Raphel Fiset (Calgry, AB) and have two all-star setters heading into the 2023-2024 season."  In his three seasons at CMU, Juvonen tallied an incredible record of 45-4 with the Blazers, helping them win two MCAC titles in 2020 and 2022. Juvonen also led the MCAC in assists this season with 9.17 per set.  Juvonen, who was captain of the Blazers, said he can’t wait to begin his next adventure in Fredericton with the Tommies.  “I hope to bring my leadership experience having been captain for two seasons at CMU and to push myself and my teammates to get better and to get back to an ACAA final," Juvonen said. "The main goal is to have the chance to compete at the CCAA National Championships."

Juvonen is the first member of the 2023-2024 recruiting class.
