Tommies Announce Addition of International Volleyball Recruit Tyler Wilson
Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team is thrilled to announce the addition of Tyler Wilson to the program for the 2024-2025 season. Wilson, an outside/middle from Hamilton, New Zealand, is a highly touted recruit and is expected to make an immediate impact on the team.
Wilson's impressive resume speaks volumes about his talent and dedication to the sport. He led Hillcrest High School to a third-place finish at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals and was named MVP of the Waikato Secondary Schools region. His leadership and skill on the court have marked him as a standout player.
Tommies Head Coach Henri Mallet expressed his excitement about the new recruit. “We are always looking at players from around the world who can make an impact on our program. Tyler stood out immediately to us, and we knew he would be able to make a difference. We look forward to welcoming him to Fredericton as he brings the character that we are looking for within our program on and off the court,” said Mallet.
For many, moving over 14,000 kilometers would be daunting, but for Tyler, it’s all business. “I want to be the best player I can be, not only for myself but for my teammates too,” said Wilson. His dedication to his personal development and his commitment to his teammates underscore the qualities that the Tommies value.
Wilson becomes the third international recruit in the history of the program, joining Braden Cook from Adelaide, Australia (2019–2022) and Gustavo Lobato from Aracaju, Brazil (2022). The addition of Wilson continues the tradition of bringing top international talent to St. Thomas University.
The St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team looks forward to an exciting season with Tyler Wilson on the roster. His skills and leadership are anticipated to enhance the team’s performance and contribute to their success in the upcoming season.
