Tommies Land Lincoln Prep's Kate Ross

Name: Kate Ross
Hometown: Stoney Creek, ON
Position:  Point Guard
Height: 5’5
Prospective Program: Arts

It has been an active offseason for head coach, Fred Connors, and the women’s basketball program, as they continue to add to their 2020-21 recruiting class with the addition of Kate Ross.

Ross joins prior recruits: Carlee Canning, Kylee RoiHailey Malley and Celine Sterckel

Ross, a point guard from Ontario, has spent time playing with Lincoln Prep Academy, via St. Mary Secondary School. An athletic guard who can shoot the ball effectively, Ross is excited to join Connors and the team.

“Coach Connors has a reputation for developing players and under his guidance STU has enjoyed a huge amount of success,” said Ross. “I look forward to being part of a team with such a bright future."

If there was ever a theme to Connors’ teams, it would be high pressure defence, having been near or at the top of the ACAA defensive statistics for numerous years, and that’s something Connors sees Ross contributing with from day one.

We are very excited to have Kate coming in,” said Connors. “She is a solid ball handler with good range. She has the ability to play with both hands and is a solid team player. What we like the most is that she is a very tenacious and proud defender. She loves to guard the ball and her athleticism will allow her to be an impact player in this league. She has been well coached, and we are very much looking forward to her joining our program.

While the basketball program was a draw for Ross, the small class sizes the STU offers was also a contributing factor in her decision to come to Fredericton.

I chose STU because it’s a small liberal arts school where I can be in small class sizes and have strong relationships with my professors and be in an engaging learning environment.
