The St. Thomas University Tommies edged the Mount Allison University Mounties 53-44 in Saturday afternoon ACAA women's basketball action at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

The game marked the season opener for the Tommies as they look to build upon a strong season last year.

The Tommies jumped out to an early lead in the first half led by 11 points from 4th year guard Bridget Frazee, who finished with a game high 19 points.

The Mounties closed the gap after a close second half, led by Abby Miller and Jill Harris, who combined for 25 points with 17 coming in the second half of play.

St. Thomas took advantage of numerous defensive turnovers outscoring their opponents 28-9 off of turnovers.

The Mounties led in defensive rebound attempts, but could not find enough power to get past the Tommies on the day.

The Tommies are back in action next Sunday when they will play host to the Crandall Chargers in a cross-provincial matchup 4pm at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym, while the Mounties will play host to the Seawolves tomorrow afternoon.
