The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s basketball team has added another Moncton High Knight to their program for the 2020-21 season.

Hailey Malley (Miramichi, NB) joins her 2020 NBIAA Provincial finalist teammate, Celine Sterckel, in the Tommies ’20-21 recruiting class.

The Tommies boast the top defensive team in the ACAA, and that is what caught head coach Fred Connors’ attention about Malley.

“Hailey impressed the coaching staff with her scrappy defence and aggressive style of play,” said Connors. “She is a ball of energy that can swing momentum in a game because of how hard she plays. She is really passionate about being a better player and being a Tommie while doing it. The players already love having her around and we all look forward to having her join the squad next season.”

Malley isn’t looking just at the basketball program at STU, as she looks forward to progressing towards an Education Degree from the school.

“I chose STU for my education, because I heard it has one of the best programs for becoming a teacher. I also have friends and family who attend the university who tell me amazing things about all of their programs, and their campus.

“I chose STU athletically because of the team. I hear amazing things about the girls. How welcoming they are, their teamwork on the court, the chemistry they all have. I truly believe that playing with these girls will help me become a better player in my future games. I have also been told how Fred is an amazing coach and pushes everyone to do their best.”
