Although the 2020-21 season is looking for a January 2021 start pending an ACAA return to play decision, Tommies Head Coach Fred Connors is already looking towards the 2021-22 campaign by signing his first recruit Alyssa Jeffrey.

The upcoming Sussex Regional High School senior guard is glad to join the Green & Gold after she completes her grade 12 season in the NBIAA.

"I chose STU because it is the perfect fit for me academically. The university has such a home-like feeling that makes me super excited to attend," mentions Jeffrey. "It is a smaller university which I like because of the smaller classes and I can have stronger relationships with my professors. I believe STU is the perfect stepping stone towards my future."

Coach Connors is very familiar with Alyssa and her family.  Fred played with Alyssa's father Spencer and coached with her aunt Candace. "Watching her grow up as a baby to the player she is today. So it’s personally very rewarding and exciting to have her with us."

Jeffrey will bring shooting and passing to the Tommies court in the 2021-22 season.

“We have a long list of excellent players from Sussex,” said Tommies’ head coach, Fred Connors on behalf of the team staff. “Alyssa is a hard nosed defender who isn’t scared to play physical. We love that she is a team focused player and loves to study the game of basketball.

Alyssa will hope that her Sussex connection and her family pedigree will continue to lead to team success when she arrives on campus in September 2021.

"I have heard so many great things about the team and how welcoming they are to new teammates. I have watched the girls play and I love the team chemistry that is shown on the court. I am super excited to have Fred as my coach. He will push me to be my best self as an athlete. I am very thankful that I get the opportunity to play the sport I love at the next level. I can’t wait to get things started."

Although Covid-19 cancelled the Fall semester of competition for the ACAA, the STU Women's Basketball has been training for a potential start in January 2021 for league play.
