Tommies Win Home Opener vs. Seawolves

Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies overcame the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves by a score of 58-35 on Sunday afternoon.

The Tommies were playing in their home opener at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym for the first time this season and the performance left coach Fred Connors delighted with the result.

"It's nice. The girls have been working hard and we've been working on our defence and we're getting healthy so it's good that we can get some momentum going."

The Tommies put out an impressive, defensive-effort as they restricted the Seawolves to single-digit scores in the first, three quarters of the match. The charge was led by Charlee Connors (Fredericton, NB), Emily Owens (Fredericton, NB) and Sam Stordy (Moncton, NB), who each recorded a team-high eight points.

The influence of Connors was crucial at the start of the second half and proved to be the catalyst of a well-drilled defensive performance.

"I thought she was really aggressive and she's going to rebound for us and she's very gritty so were really happy with her effort," coach Connors said about his player after the game.

The Tommies next game will be on Saturday when they host the University of King's College at home. The Seawolves next game will also be on Saturday when they host Mount Saint Vincent University.
