Ken Gould Tournament Recap

Fredericton, NB - The Tommies picked up a couple wins in their annual Ken Gould exhibition tournament at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym this past weekend. The Women's team went 1-2 over the weekend, defeating the Holland College Hurricanes 71-57 on Saturday. Ava Prosser (Johnstown, ON) dropped 16 points and seven rebounds in the win, while Charlie Connors (Fredericton, NB) came off the bench to add 14.  Amy Plaggenhoef of the Hurricanes led the game in scoring with 18.

Their opening game on Friday night against the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics was a tight 69-64 loss. Vanessa Soffee (Fredericton, NB) had a game high of 18 points, shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc, along with three steals. Emily Holt of the Mystics had a double-double performance with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

In their final game, the Mount Allison University Mounties came away with a 70-53 win over the Tommies. Katie Vidito (Charlottetown, PE) caught fire and provided energy off the bench, scoring a game high 22 points, going 5-7 from the 3-point line. Maddie Greatorex scored 12 points for MTA.

The Men's team had the same record over their weekend, starting off with a 95-88 win over the Mystics on Friday night. Tanner Hoyt (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) scored 22 for STU, draining five 3-pointers off eight attempts.  Vincent Lyttleton (Markham, ON) posted a near triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. He also added five steals.

STU dropped their Saturday match to the Hurricanes, 115-92, as  Kyree Thompson of the Hurricanes had a 28 point game off the bench. Tre Campbell (Scarborough, ON) had 19 for the Tommies.

STU rounded off their weekend in a tightly contested 90-86 loss to the Mounties, getting a double-double performance from Harrison Florean (Fredericton, NB) with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Florean added six assists as well. Tim Ellison led the Mounties, recording a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

On the Women's side, MSVU went 2-1, Holland went 1-2 and MTA went 2-1.

On the Men's side, Holland went 2-1, MTA went 2-1 and MSVU went 1-2.
