Tommies Blank Aigles Bleues in Pre-season Match Up

The St. Thomas Tommies improved their pre-season record to 3-0 with a win over the U de M Aigles Bleues in Moncton, Sunday afternoon.

The Tommies came out slow in the first but eventually found their rhythm. Midway through the frame, rookie Lauren Legault converted on a pass from Lauren Henman to give the Tommies a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Tommies were forced to kill three power plays to maintain their lead. Although the Aigles Bleues generated a number of chances, the Tommies were able to keep them off the board.

The final stanza saw the teams exchange chances, but it was the Tommies who capitalized when Legault potted her second of the game off a nice set up from Jessie McCann and Danielle Ring

Penalties became an issue again, putting the Tommies on the penalty kill three times in the period. After successfully killing all three penalties, the Tommies found the back of the net a third time as Henman finished a pass from Emily Oleksuk on the power play.

Despite outshooting the Tommies 10-9 in the third, the Aigles Bleues were unable to beat STU netminder Taylor Cook.

The Tommies are back in action Saturday, October 1 at 3:00 pm when they host the UPEI Panthers at the Grant-Harvey Centre.
