The St. Thomas University Tommies fell to the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues 2-0 in AUS women's hockey action Friday night at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

The contest was the Tommies' final home game of the regular season but the team will return to home ice in the best-of-three semifinal series beginning in late February.

The first period started out in favour of the Tommies as they outshot the Aigles Bleues in the first 10 minutes, but that didn't last long as Judyane Bernier made it 1-0 on a deflection in front of STU netminder Taylor Cook.

Tommies head coach Peter Murphy was pleased with the way his team played in the early on, but acknowledged the solid play from U de M goaltender Gabrielle Forget.  

"We played a very good game. We were solid and stopped their breakouts a lot," Murphy said. "We weren't taking her eyes away from the pucks, and that's really the only thing the girls didn't do well."

The score remained 1-0 after the first period with the shots in favour of the Tommies, 10-2.

The second period didn't produce better fortune for the Tommies. Karine Roy scored for the Aigles Bleues to make it 2-0—their second goal on three shots.

"You can't really fault her on the first goal," Murphy said of Cook. "I thought she played well overall."

The Tommies were also blanked in the third period, giving the Aigles Bleues the 2-0 win.

The Tommies are back in action tomorrow when they visit the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in Charlottetown.
