The Dalhousie Tigers bested the St. Thomas University Tommies 5-4 in AUS women's hockey action Saturday night in Halifax.
The Tigers scored less than a minute into the contest when Natalie Stanwood recovered the puck and sent a wrist shot just over the pad of Tommies goalie Abby Clarke.
St. Thomas responded as forward Lauren Henman broke into the zone and fired a hard shot that was knocked down by Tigers netminder, Fabiana Petricca, but buried by a streaking Olivia Reid, who was able to tap home the rebound to tie it up at 1-1.
Stephanie Ford pulled a nifty toe-drag around a defender to get behind the net, and was able to sneak the puck between the Petricca's skate and the post on a wrap-around for a 2-1 lead.
In the second period, Autumn Moors capitalized on a Tommies' turnover to tie the game for the Tigers.
Just minutes later, a shot from the point caused a scramble in front of the Tigers net and Becky Conner was in the right place to jam it home and give the Tommies a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers were still resilient and were rewarded for their effort with a goal from Ariana Pinchuk, who evened the score with a shot from the point.
Late in the frame, Reid found the puck in the slot and ripped a shot from the hash-marked for her second marker of the game to restore the Tommies lead.
The goal filled period came to a conclusion with the Tommies leading 4-3.
The Tigers came out firing in the third and Keana Oshowy broke out alone, beating Clarke to tie the game at 4-4.
Midway through the final stanza, Moors potted her second of the game to put the Tigers up 5-4.
A late power play gave the Tommies an opportunity to tie it up in the dying minutes, but they were unable to convert.
