The defending AUS Champion St. Thomas Tommies are on the hunt for continued success and have found some in landing recruits Marandee Hunter and Jacey Dane.

Hunter, of Chatham, ON, backstopped the Chatham Outlaws to the Ontario Provincial bronze medal game this season and has been a standout at the Midget AA level sporting a 2018-19 record of 19 wins, 3 losses and 5 ties with 8 shutouts.

Tommies head coach Peter Murphy was immediately impressed by Hunter.

“Seeing Marandee play the first thing you notice is her athleticism, but her compete level is what separates her from a lot of her peers.  She does everything she can to stop a puck.  On top of that she is very eager to learn and we see her improving quickly this season.”

Marandee sees St Thomas as a great fit.

“When I toured the campus everyone there gave me a warm welcome. St. Thomas will provide great education options to help me pursue my desired career. Above all I chose St. Thomas University because of the community and family-oriented atmosphere.”

Murphy feels they have a diamond in the rough with 5’8” forward Jacey Dane of Aurora, ON.  She played in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) for the Aurora Panthers and marked four goals and 12 assists in 69 games.

“Jacey is a fast, physical player that plays heads up hockey.  She is very aware of her linemates and how to work with them, with or without the puck” Murphy said.

“I watched her all season and at provincials she upped her game to another level.  If she keeps that mentality when she arrives, she will be able to adapt quickly to the AUS level.”

Jacey fell in love with the atmosphere at the university and the team.

“I love the small-town feel of St. Thomas, while having the excitement of a university town. St. Thomas allows me to continue to play the sport I love and study in an environment where I feel comfortable and welcomed.”

These latest recruits will help bolster the lineup that graduated several key players.  They join previously named recruits Aislynn Byers (Dundalk, ON), Brooklyn Whitford (Nepean, ON), Erin Arsenault (Burlington, ON), Emma Wilson (Midhurst, ON), Stephanie Goertzen (Brampton, ON), and Natania King (Sudbury, ON).
