Maritime Major scoring leader Natalie MacKay signs with STU Women's Hockey

The Tommies Women's Hockey team will add a scoring touch in 2021-22 with the signing of Natalie MacKay of Truro, Nova Scotia.

The 5'8 forward and current member of the Northern Subway Selects of the Maritime Major U18 Hockey league will don the Green & Gold next year at STU.

"I chose St Thomas University because I wanted a well-rounded education with the opportunity to sample courses from many departments," notes MacKay. "I was impressed with the family environment the STU women’s hockey program will provide. It is a perfect fit for my academic growth and athletic aspirations."

MacKay has been performing well through development as a member of Team Nova Scotia's U16 and was a All-Star Rookie team member that year in the U18 league.  Natalie also participated in the Team Nova Scotia's U18 program, despite the cancellation of the Atlantic Challenge Cup in October 2020.

Continuing to build her reputation in the Maritime League, last year she was a Second Team All-Star having scored 17 goals and 8 assists.  Through 12 games this season, Natalie leads the league in goals with 14 while adding 10 assists.

Coach Peter Murphy lauds his newest addition for the return to AUS Conference play in 2021-22.  "Natalie brings a lot to the table when she plays.  She is a power forward who can win pucks on the boards and get them to scoring positions."

"She has been a goal scorer at every level she has played.  What I like most about Nat is her ability to make others around her better.  She is a team first player and then coupled with being a strong student will drive her success at the next level," adds Coach Murphy.

After missing the 2020-21 season due to Covid -19, Murphy boasts that MacKay's addition will make: "Tommies Nation excited to see her in Green and Gold".

Natalie is the second addition to the Tommies Women's Hockey roster after the annoucement of Olivia Stock last week..
