Nimegeers Scores Lone Goal in Tommies Victory

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas Tommies' narrowly defeated the Mount Allison Mounties by a score of 1-0 Saturday night at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

A tight back and forth game between the two New Brunswick teams did not see its first scoring until late in the third period. The Subway Player of the Game Claire Nimegeers (Wilcox, SK) broke the scoring when she buried a wraparound feed from Trinity Webber (Brampton, ON).

Nimegeers said it felt good to get the game winning goal.

"I know we needed it and I think Trinity made a great pass," she said. "It's good that we got it".

Both teams exchanged quality scoring opportunities despite two and a half scoreless periods and had great powerplays but not enough to beat either goalie.

Tommies' goalie Katie Sweeney (Tecumseh, ON) fought off several chances in tight following the go-ahead goal to seal the game for the Tommies to top off a 21 save shutout performance.

Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) made 25 saves.

Tommies' coach Geneviève David said her team was able to make the needed adjustments between periods.

"The girls stuck to them and it paid off," David said

The Tommies' are on the road next weekend as they head to PEI to face the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers on Oct. 29th at 3:00. The Mounties will face the University of New Brunswick Reds tomorrow at the Aitken Centre.
