Regina Rebels Amber Daley readies for jump to Green & Gold

 New Recruit Alert

The Tommies Women's Hockey team is adding another piece on defense with the announcement that Amber Daley has commited to St. Thomas University.

Heading East to play in the competitive AUS conference, Daley chose STU to pursue a degree in Economics as well as a minor in Business.

"I chose St. Thomas University because of the positive and welcoming environment," said Daley.  "I also like the small class sizes and campus."

It's natural that student-athletes who like the tight knit atmosphere for their University career will head to the Liberal Arts school in Fredericton.  That being said, the Tommies Women's hockey program competes in a challenging division and Amber is not afraid to step up in her rookie season.

"I am going to bring positivity and a competitive spirit on and off the ice," said Amber.  This bodes well for a squad looking to return to the AUS post-season after a disappointing season.

She'll bring some championship experience to the Green & Gold as her Regina Rebels team won the Saskatchewan Provincial U18AAA league, and regionals and finishing 3rd at the Esso Cup hosted in Prince Albert.

Coach Peter Murphy took notice of her progress while recruiting the next class of incoming Tommies.

“Amber is a strong defensively minded defender who comes to us from a strong hockey program in Regina," Peter said.  "She has good size but is very quick and uses this to pressure opponents and break pucks out of her zone with a solid first pass.

Murphy also knew that he needed to solidify the back end in order to compete amongst the conference's top teams and Daley can develop into that type of player.

"Her ability to get shots through from the blue line and her overall skating ability will be great assets to her at the USports level," he added.

With 22 years behind the bench of the STU Women's Hockey prorgram, Coach Murphy also looks for the assets you may not find in the stats.

"Besides those attributes, her team-first attitude, character and willingness to improve herself year over year will make Amber a key player for the Tommies moving forward," he said.

Daley joins the 2023-24 recruiting class along with incoming teammates Nadia Lavoie, Ella Chambers, Lauren Smith, Chloe Marshall and MJ English.

The 2023-24 AUS Women's Hockey schedule will be announced in June and Season Passes will be on sale in August, along with Training Camp starting in September.
