Devernichuk Named AUS All-Rookie

Amy Dvernichuk's rookie year will end as a success - the forward from Regina, SK, has been named to the Atlantic University Sport All-Rookie Team.

"It's an honour to be selected," Dvernichuk said. "I feel fortunate to play for a team where I was immediately given an opportunity."

Dvernichuk scored eight goals and tallied four assists, finishing with 12 points in 28 games. Her eight goals led all Tommies' skaters, while her 12 points only trailed Tommies' veteran and Dvernichuk's linemate Emma Wilson's (Midhurst, ON) 14 points. Her three powerplay goals also led the Tommies and placd her in the top-10 in the AUS.

Tommies' head coach Peter Murphy said Dvernichuk took her opportunity to thrive in the AUS right away.

"Amy has entered into the AUS and been given an opportunity to thrive. She has taken that opportunity and adjusted to the speed and physicality of the conference," Murphy said. "We saw her develop into a reliable two-way player and definitely showed her offensive touch around the net.  We look forward to seeing her continue her process of development into her second year."

Dvernichuk also completed a feat that only four AUS could achieve all season, as she scored a Hat-Trick in a 5-1 win on Jan. 7 over the Mount Allison University Mounties. She credits her linemates for making her comfortable and confident on the ice.

"My linemates always gave me pointers on areas for improvement," she said. "I feel that my game improved as my confidence level grew. I'm grateful for the opportunities that I received this year that helped me grow over this season."

Off the ice, Dvernichuk said spending time with her teammates in the welcoming community St. Thomas provides has helped her adjustment to being far from home.

"Being so far from home wasn't an easy move but coming into the beautiful campus and welcoming community made it easy and enjoyable."
