Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs forward commits to Tommies Hockey

 New Recruit Alert

The Tommies Women's Hockey team are building a pipeline to Alberta with the recent signing of Nadia Lavoie from the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs.

The left winger will bring her play-making ability and championship experience after her U18 AAA team captured the Alberta Provincial Championships this Spring.

Now, she'll head East to bring that mentality when she attends St. Thomas this Fall.

"I chose St. Thomas because it’s so close knitted and welcoming," Lavoie said. "The people are so welcoming and caring. It was an easy decision when I toured the university and I saw how every student mattered at STU."

Despite missing the playoff in 2022-2023, the Tommies have some solid pieces moving forward and will look to the rookies to step into important roles.

Coach Peter Murphy wants his program to be back in the top echelons and the incoming class will push the program back into contention.

“Nadia Lavoie comes to the Tommies from a very successful Red Deer program that won the Alberta U18 championship," Coach Murphy adds. "Nadia is a player that looks to make a difference every time she is on the ice."

She is looking forward to donning the Green & Gold after scoring 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points this season.

"The STU program is a dedicated program. The Tommies logo is one that all the little girls in Fredericton dream to wear. Anyone that’s paying attention can see how dedicated Peter Murphy is to his team."

Peter is looking for players that will grind and work hard.  "She plays a gritty game and is willing to consistently go to where the puck is.  Nadia has scored or setup big goals for her team on a regular basis," said the coach.

"She is sneaky quick and has a great ability to get pucks to the net and is a strong character player," added the bench boss at the helm since 2001. "We are very excited to welcome Nadia to our program.”

"I can't wait to be part of it!" finishes Lavoie.

Nadia joins the 2023-24 recruiting class along with incoming teammates Ella Chambers, Lauren Smith, Chloe Marshall and MJ English.

The 2023-24 AUS Women's Hockey schedule will be announced in May and Season Passes will be on sale in August, along with Training Camp starting in September.
