Tommies fall short against UdeM in a shootout

Fredericton, NB, St. Thomas University fell short against UdeM in a shootout. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions. 1st period saw no goals; right at the start of 2nd period at 00:36, STU Tommies took advantage with a goal from Trinity Webber, assisted by Ekaterina Pelowich and Nadia Lavoie

Continuing on in the second period, UdeM did not back down and constantly attacked the Tommies net. UdeM had a clear chance at the end of the second period, but Sweeney denied it, helping STU maintain the lead. 

In the 3rd period, at 6:53 in a PP, Moncton was able to tie the game with a goal from Maritza Labrie, assisted by Cassandra Call and Shani Rossignol Sweeney. 

"We worked the whole game, a tight game, especially in the third period; we knew we had to grind; they came hard at us after we scored," Webber said.  

Regular time ended 1-1, and the game went to overtime. No goals happened in overtime, so the game went to a shootout, where STU Tommies missed two shots. Ekaterina Pelowich and Lauren Smith couldn't score against Berthiaume. UdeM scored both goals, the first one from Erica Plourde and the victory goal by Cassandra Call. UdeM was able to get another win on the road, while the Tommies couldn't continue their streak of wins.

The stars of the game were Cassandra Call for UdeM and Trinity Webber for the Tommies. Both goalies had great performances, with Sweeney having 27 saves and Berthiaume with 26.

"We need to keep working hard for the next games so we can get the points; they wont be easy, but we need to focus in order to win," Webber said after the game

On Wednesday, November 22nd, UdeM will be on the road again as they visit UNB, while the next game for the Tommies will be against Dalhousie.
