Fredericton, NB - Tommies rebounded from their recent loss over UNB and took the win at home 4-0 over UPEI Panthers. Tommies took control early in the game, Forward Aimee O'Neill at 11:07(Tristyn Endicott and Amber Daley) opened the scoring with a quick strike to put the Tommies on the board. Building on that momentum, Nadia Lavoie at 13:55 doubled the lead, and just one minute later, Claire Nimegeers assisted by Megan Kirkpatrick capped off a dominant first period with a third goal for the Tommies.
The second period featured a more balanced battle as UPEI pushed to get on the board and the Tommies sought to extend their lead. Both goalies had good performances second period, with Chloe Marshall of STU and Oriana MacNeill of UPEI turning away several quality chances to keep the score unchanged.
In the third period, captain Ekaterina Pelowich struck at 7:08 to extend the lead to 4-0, effectively sealing the win for the Tommies. Tommies defensive effort and Marshall's saves ensured the Panthers couldn't break through, earning STU a shutout victory.
The three stars of the game were Chloe Marshall (STU) for her shutout performance and Oriana MacNeill (UPEI). With this victory, the Tommies snapped the Panthers streak and reestablished momentum as they look to build consistency moving forward.
This game closes the 2024 year for both teams, UPEI will be back against Moncton and Tommies will take Dalhousie Friday January 10 2025.
