Schriver Notches First ACAA Win as Coach

The St. Thomas University Tommies won their home opener against the Mount Allison University Mounties Friday night, 46-20.

The win marked the first ACAA victory for newly appointed head coach, Mary-Kim Schriver.

"It was pretty amazing," said Schriver post-game in reference to the win. "The girls did all the work, and they deserve every bit of recognition."

The Tommies got on the board early in the contest with rookie Claire Avery (Hammonds Plains, NS) scoring the opening try. STU got other tries from veteran Kristen Bulman (Moncton, NB), Elizabeth "Libby" Harmon (Queenstown, NB), Alexia Korytko (Dieppe, NB), Myriam Noel (Moncton, NB), Olivia Ricketts (Saint John, NB), while Becca Baker (Keswick Ridge, NB) had two. Emily Donelle (Moncton, NB) converted on three of the tries.

"We had a nice spread of scoring tonight," said Schriver about her team's balance. "There were some first-year students who really stepped up their game, Cassidy Gordon and Maddy Leblanc."

Mount Allison got tries from Jenna Green, Kestia Milomga, Lauren Boyce, and Lauren MacLeod, and began to mount a comeback in the second half before the Tommies put the game out of reach.

"Keep resetting and think of it as a 0-0 game the whole way through," Schriver said about her team's second half mentality. "Readjust, reset and do what you have to do to get the energy back up."

The Mounties host UNB on Sunday, September 29th, while the Tommies host the University of King's College Blue Devils that same day.
