Tommies Women's Rugby welcome return to Fredericton for Reann Fournier

The Tommies Women's Rugby continue to reload for the upcoming ACAA season with Frederictonian Reann Fournier joining the team for Training Camp.

After taking some time off from the sport and attending Bishop's University in Quebec, Fournier grew homesick and is heading back to New Brunswick's capital city.

"Coming back to Fredericton, I had a feeling that it would be a good fit for me with the smaller campus and close community."

Fournier has heard great things about the STU Women's Rugby program as well. Reann lauds the coaching history "I was also lucky enough to have some amazing high school coaches who were linked with the STU Women’s Rugby team at the time I was on my high school team, so I knew that it would be a great option for getting myself back on the field."

Despite the time off the pitch, Reann look to bring the team together with her positive attitude.

"I’ve always been someone who works well on a team and tends to take up an encouraging and supportive role with my peers (both on and off the field) once I’m comfortable in the space, so I’m definitely looking forward to our team dynamic."

Coach Nathan Bustard, who is still looking to coach his first game in the ACAA, has a great feeling about Reann's commitment to the Tommies Rugby squad.

"Reann has had experience playing in many of the positions in the scrum that we were looking to shore up this off-season, adding to our team's depth and experience in the forwards and during set-pieces."

Up to the challenge, Fournier knows that there will be a learning curve with a new young team.

"Of course, when it comes to the game, I’m excited to continue to deep dive and learn about the sport. I want to leave knowing I’m proud of the games I played and knowing that I never once stepped on the field without giving my all."

Coach Bustard is hoping that mentality spreads amongst the team quickly.

"From our conversations with Reann, we very much look forward to the positive energy and passion for the sport that they will be bringing with them to St. Thomas University," Nathan mentions.

Reann is the third recruit announced by the STU Women's Rugby team, joining incoming players Savannah Simon and Taylor Watson.  The Tommies Women's Rugby team will host their home opener on Sunday September 19th vs UNB at Grant-Harvey Turf Field at 2pm.
