Tommies tab Taylor Watson for Women's Rugby this Fall.

The Tommies Women's Rugby team is adding Taylor Watson from Saint John, NB to bolster the second line.

The St. Malachy's High School graduate heads to STU to pursue her academics with the opportunity to play Rugby close to home.  "St. Thomas has competitive high level teams that have proven to be successful.  I have heard good things about the Women's Rugby program and cannot wait to get a chance to be a part of it."

With the return of rugby after a pandemic cancelled season, Coach Nathan Bustard is looking forward to hitting the pitch for his first game at the helm, and will look to new players like Taylor who will bring experience.  "Taylor has an impressive rugby background, playing for some very successful teams both in high school and at the provincial level."

The Tommies have been in every Championship Final since their return to the ACAA, but are looking to take home the title with recruits that have seen success.  "At both levels, Taylor had the opportunity to compete during championships, gaining valuable experience in high pressure situations," mentions Bustard.

Watson earned silver at the Atlantic Rugby Championships in 2019 as a member of Team NB, as well as a finalist in the NBIAA Rugby finals with the Saints.

Coming off injury, she's wants to hit the pitch and being an impact for the squad right from training camp.  Taylor adds "Along with my field awareness, I want to bring my positive attitude and love of the sport.  A positive mindset can improve your game immensely."

Coach Bustard welcomes that mindset for the Green & Gold. "Taylor has a great work ethic and her commitment to having a positive attitude will benefit the program both on the field and from the sidelines."

Taylor is the second announced addition to the Women's Rugby program after the commitment of Savannah Simon.
