(Fredericton, NB) The St. Thomas University Tommies got into the win column Wednesday night when they defeated the Crandall University Chargers 6-0 in ACAA action.

The Tommies started off strong in the attacking end when Abigail Curwin (Saint John, NB) was the first to put the Tommies on the scoreboard a minute into the match.

At the 18-minute mark Leandra Upton (Fredericton, NB) scored on a penalty kick to put the Tommies up by two.

The Tommies end the first half with a score of 2-0.

The first 20 minutes of the second half was a hard fought battle by both teams, but Phoebe van der Meulen (Summerside, PE) managed to add two goals to the scoreboard within two minutes of each other.

Curwin scored her second goal of the evening not long after van der Meulen.

With five minutes left in the match rookie Kait Benjamin (Bridgewater, NS) ended the night with the final goal of the game.

"I thought that the team brought some good energy. Especially coming out and scoring two goals in the first fifteen minutes," said head coach Michelle DeCourcey.

The Tommies are back in action Saturday when they host the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics, while the Chargers will host the Dal AC Rams that same day.
