Tommies Women's Soccer add leadership and midfield experience with Dobson

The St. Thomas Women's Soccer team is adding Summerside's Elly Dobson to the squad for the upcoming Fall season.

The Central midfielder will help fill the hole left by the graduation of Louisa Hughes and Leandra Upton who controlled the middle of the park for the Green & Gold.

Dobson is looking to make an impact for the Tommies with her experience and leadership.  She was a team captain of four of the teams that she played on, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the PEI High School league as a member of the Three Oaks High school team.

"I hope to bring a positive attitude alongside my work ethic and broad skill set," Elly mentions in anticipation of the return to play in the ACAA.  She's a member of the PEI U18 Provincial team and is currently a member of the Summerside United Senior Women's team.

In moving to Fredericton to attend STU, it will lead her down a new path.  Elly wants to "grow and mature as a soccer player become very well rounded and hophopefully bring at least one championship home!"

After helping her high school team win a provincial banner, she hopes to bring another banner to Fredericton's campus.

Head Coach Michelle DeCourcey enjoys hearing hat competitive spirit.  "She has some excellent playing experience and a terrific attitude, which we know will serve her well as she makes her ACAA debut."

New players will rule the roost this coming season after a pandemic plagued season forced the cancellation of the 2020 soccer calendar.  Despite that cancellation, the University life should return to normal for August's training camp.

Elly was drawn to St. Thomas because it boasts "a great Social Work program, and it's a close knit campus."

Elly is Coach DeCourcey's second recruit announced after Laura Nancekievill committed to play soccer and basketball with the Tommies.
