Fredericton, NB - After going six games without a win, the STU Women's Soccer team emerged victorious in their match versus rivals, UNBSJ Seawolves. They have had a very rocky season but today's performance can be used as encouragement to finish the season on a high.

The game started off slowly for both teams and they gradually grew into the game. In the first half the only notable moment for STU was a free-kick that was tipped on to the crossbar. The Seawolves had the better chances of the half but failed to capitalize on them.

The second half belonged to the defense of STU, as well as Emma Langille (Fredericton, NB). Langille is the only goal scorer for STU's Women's team this season and she almost added to her tally in the 48th minute but she shot over the bar. In a rollercoaster five minutes for Langille, she went from missing that opportunity to scoring a fantastic goal. She took her shot from the edge of the 18-yard box and the keeper could do nothing but watch it drop under the crossbar and into the back of the net.

After the goal, the defense helped the team tremendously and was a big part of why they held on for the win. The Seawolves offered very little in attack after the goal and hardly created any opportunities.

"I thought we had our best game of the season today," said coach, Michelle DeCourcey. "We're leaving with a really good feeling after the game," she added.

There could have been icing on the cake for the Tommies, however Jessica McWilliams (Tracadie, NB) skied her penalty after Kait Benjamin (Bridgewater, NS) was taken down in the box in the dying moments of the match.

When DeCourcey was asked if the team can keep the momentum going she replied, "I think so, we had an excellent performance in our last game and this one was even better."

The Tommies will face the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on October 16th at 2 p.m. at Grant-Harvey Turf Field, while the Seawolves will get the Crandall University Chargers on Tuesday, October 5th at 6:00pm at Canada Games Stadium.
