Algoma Thunderbirds Keeper Jessica Weir heads to STU

 New Transfer Alert

Goalkeeper Jessica Weir is returning to the East Coast and joining the Tommies Women's Soccer program.

After attending Algoma University in Sault-Ste-Marie, Ontario, the Greenwood, Nova Scotia native is tranfering to attend STU and competing in the ACAA.

"I chose St. Thomas for its strong French program and for the strong soccer history," mentions Weir who is intended on completing her Arts degree with a major in English and double minors in French and History.

Coach David Itoafa is looking to find the right combination as he enters his inaugural campaign in the ACAA with the Women's Soccer team.  Bringing in a goalkeeper with experience in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) will certainly help in the backfield.

"Jessica is an amazing goalkeeper and person that is good with her feet and distributes the ball well," adds the rookie bench boss.

The group will look to content in the early stages of September, but the foudation will be in place.

"The program has good roots and a bright future," confirms Jessica from her campus visit.  "Not only does it seem to be a very tight-knit group but a supportive and healthy environment."

Weir is the fourth addition announced for Women's Soccer follow Brooklynn Saunders, Katy Davidge and Caitlyn Steeves for the 2023-24 season.

The 2023 ACAA Fall Soccer schedule will be announced in May and Season Passes will be on sale in August, along with Training Camp starting at the end of August.
