Weir shines again as Tommies hold champion Mystics to a stalemate.

Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies held the reigning champion Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon at Grant Harvey Turf Field.

It was a game of very few chances, and both teams had great opportunities to win the game. The second half had a great chance for each team. The Mystics pounced on a defensive error in the Tommies box that left keeper Jessica Weir scrambling to get back. It was left for Myah Allen to put the ball into the net, but her shot hit the post and flew away to safety.

Weir continued with her incredible form as she recorded double-digit saves for the second game in a row. STU coach David Itoafa was delighted and talked about her match-saving performance.

"Jessica has an unorthodox, goalkeeping style at times but the ball doesn't go in the net, and there's nothing you can say, so we're really impressed with her performance."

The Tommies also had a great chance to win the game at the end when Caitlyn Steeves played in Jayci Peck to win it, but her shot went wide of the target. Steeves was also involved in many actions throughout the game, and Itoafa praised her for her endeavour throughout the match.

"You see, when she gets on the ball, she is electric, but what you don't notice is the running and what she is doing off the ball to get into those positions and help out her teammates."

The Tommies' next match will take place on Sunday as they host the University of King's College, while the next match for the Mystics will also be on
