Fredericton, NB - The STU Tommies battled to a 1-1 draw against the MSVU Mystics in their second home game of the season, with rookie Erika Swinamer scoring a stunning early goal.
The STU Tommies faced off against the MSVU Mystics in their second game of the season at Grant-Harvey Turf Field.
The Tommies came out strong in the first half, with rookie Erika Swinamer opening the scoring in the 13th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box. The early lead energized the Tommies, but MSVU quickly responded. In the 24th minute, Lauren Simone found the net for the Mystics, leveling the score at 1-1. Both teams pushed for another goal, but the score remained tied at halftime.
The second half saw intense competition as both sides sought to secure a win. The Tommies were dealt a blow when key player Jayci Peck had to leave the field due to injury.
Despite the challenges and a few more opportunities, neither team could break the deadlock, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
This result marks the second consecutive home draw for the Tommies, who are still searching for their first win of the season. Erika Swinamer was named Player of the Game for her excellent performance and crucial goal.
The Tommies will hit the road for their next match, taking on Dalhousie Agricultural College on September 14. Meanwhile, the MSVU Mystics will face off against UKC on September 11. As the season progresses, both teams will look to build on their early performances and secure crucial points in the standings.
